Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi drove majority of Q3 global smartphone shipment growth

Following Canalys estimates of Q3 2017 smartphone sales in the world’s two largest markets, the time has come today for Strategy Analytics and the International Data Corporation (IDC) to release their total global approximations covering the same period.

While the former research firm says around 393 million smartphones were shipped worldwide between July and September 2017, with the IDC’s tally standing at a significantly lower 373 million units, the overall industry trend noticed by both analysis companies is very similar.

The market has “settled into a steady rhythm of single-digit growth this year”, estimated at 5 percent compared to Q3 2016 by Strategy Analytics, and 2.7 percent in the IDC’s preliminary results.
