Google Allo exceeds 1 million Android downloads

As you may have heard, Google’s new Allo chat app launched earlier this week. Despite a generally mixed response and concerns over privacy, the new IM service has achieved plenty of installs, having already passed the million mark on the Play Store. It has become the number one free app ahead of Facebook Messenger and looks on course to emulate Google Duo — Allo’s video-focused counterpart — which eased past the 5 million downloads mark on Android within 10 days of its roll-out.

The count-up doesn’t take into account installs on iOS, and since the Play Store only mentions that Allo is somewhere between 1 and 5 million downloads, the actual number of users on Allo could be considerably higher than a million.
