Apple Watch 2 likely coming with GPS in tow this year, iterative upgrade also expected

Both the watchOS and Android Wear platforms look set to receive extensive bundles of new features this fall, but in lack of fresh and exciting hardware to go along with them, the software updates probably won’t be enough to revitalize a young market already stuck in a rut.

Google and Apple need their wrist-worn late 2016 releases to present compelling use cases, no longer feeling like tiny smartphones or glorified pedometers. Unfortunately, the almost never-failing Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities believes standalone LTE connectivity will only arrive to the Apple Watch next year, while FDA approval and improved health applications could take until 2018 to come through.
