As the latest and arguably greatest of the tablets that carry the Nexus name, you might think that the HTC built Nexus 9 slate would have received an update for Android 5.1.1 along with the older Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 slabs. The Nexus 9 did receive an update today, but it only takes the device to Android 5.0.2. This is a very minor bug fix that weighs in at 23.3MB.
According to one theory, the NVIDIA Tegra K1 SoC under the hood of the Nexus 9 is the reason why the tablet is treated like Google’s illegitimate child. However, there is a possibility that the Android 5.0.2 update is a required pre-requisite for Android 5.1.1 and perhaps the Nexus 9 will be updated shortly to the latest build of Google’s open source OS.
