Every year, new technology emerges. This year is no different, with Samsung promising a new era of cutting-edge mobile devices.
It’s not too long before they release it to the public (8th of March), so let’s take a quick look at what Samsung has in store for us.
Meet the Next Generation Galaxy S10
A testament to a decade of innovations since the launch of the first Galaxy S, Samsung introduces a new line of premium smartphones. With three unique devices, including S10+ and S10E, this line of technology sets the stage for the next generation of mobile experiences. At first glance, it looks gorgeous and seemingly taking a new approach.
For starters, Galaxy S10 takes every specification to the next level.
Hands-on impressions show that there are three main improvements: the display, the fingerprint sensor, and the cameras. “It’s just more well-thought-out and well-designed than previous Samsung software,” Marques Brownlee says at first glance.
But is it enough?
More Cameras
What really sells the phone is the 6.1-inch Infinity-O Display with a hole-punch camera at the top where the selfie camera sits. It introduces a nearly edge-to-edge look that stretches top to bottom. The end result is an impressive screen-to-body ratio, giving you more screen real estate than ever before. Not only is it the first HDR10+-certified screen, which means it offers crisper details and more accurate colors, but it also reduces blue light exposure by 42%. Furthermore, Samsung’s new screens are TÜV Rheinland-certified.
Better Fingerprint Sensors
All of the important sensors are neatly tucked behind this vibrant display. This means that, behind the glass, lies the new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. You won’t find in the back anymore, and it’s now invisible in the front—where it belongs. According to Samsung, this new sensor is much more reliable than solutions from competitors since it records every single ridge in your print. By doing so, this ultrasonic scanner creates a 3D mold of your fingertips, which means that it will continue to work in tough weather conditions; including heavy rain!
Other Specs
It’s nice to see Samsung fit a larger battery cell inside the S10. The 3400mAh battery isn’t the largest on the market, but it will be interesting to find out how it actually performs in the long-term. Samsung say it will last a day. And while there haven’t been any obvious improvements regarding the charging speed, there is one welcome update and that is the Wireless Powershare. This enables the user to charge another Qi-enabled tech by placing it on the S10–although at a slower speed than expected.
The only downside is that the Bixby button still exists (if you’re against it), as well as maybe the price—starts from $999.99. 2018 has been, to some extent, the year of affordable smartphones, with OnePlus 6T being arguably the best bang for your buck. That’s why the price tag might be considered a downside for the $1000 smartphone bracket. But so far, the S10 series promises a lot, we will just have to wait and see if it delivers as well.
