Elon Musk Takes 9.2% Stake in Twitter

Elon Musk now owns a sizable chunk of Twitter, with a Securities and Exchange Commission filing revealing that the Tesla chief took a 9.2% stake in the social media site on March 14. That makes Musk its biggest stakeholder, Bloomberg reported on Monday.

The stake is worth $2.89 billion, based on Twitter’s closing price Friday, according to CNBC.

Musk is among the social media platform’s most prolific users. On March 25, he polled his 80.2 million followers to ask if they thought Twitter “rigorously adheres” to the principle of free speech. (More than 70% said no.) Musk was referring to free speech protection under the First Amendment to the US Constitution, but that only applies to the government censoring speech.
