2014 may have been the year of so-called “dumb apps” — but some apps are actually able to make you smarter.
At least, that’s the claim of Elevate, the iPhone app Apple just named best of the year

Created by a 15-person startup in San Francisco, Elevate is similar to other “brain-training” apps, most notably Lumosity. It aims to improve memory, math and concentration skills by guiding users through a series of specialized games.
You begin by selecting the areas you want to focus on and completing a brief evaluation. Elevate creates a series of games designed to help you improve in those areas over time.
