Hold onto your nostalgia. It may be all we’ll ever get in place of real flip phones in the future. This warning comes as Samsung gets a major take-up in curved display orders from Chinese manufacturers — in fact, those displays can be seen on a big talker of a device, the Vivo Xplay 5. Industry sources say several manufacturers will fill out their lineups for the second half of the year with those curvy-screened phones.
Two OEMs spotlighted were Huawei and Xiaomi. The latter was known to have a penchant for iPhone-like hardware design. But with the Mi 5 towing in cues from Samsung, the money’s on the Mi Note 2 to get a curved screen. We don’t have much on Huawei’s plans to implement tapered glass panels into a fall flagship — perhaps, the Mate S‘s or Mate 8‘s successor.
